COMMUNICATION!!

By Roger Reynolds

Communication between agent, client, workers' compensation carrier and ABCO Payroll Services needs to continue after the client has been signed. In fact, it needs to continue as long as the relationships continue.

Don't forget to include ABCO Payroll Service in the loop when changes are made that affect your client's workers' compensation policy. Many times on our end it seems that everybody believes we automatically know when changes have been made. When you have qualified your client for a discount, don't assume the workers' compensation carrier will notify us with rate changes. Even if the carrier does notify us, it usually isn't timely.

And if you change carriers it is EXTREMELY important that you notify us. Again, if the new carrier sends us rate information it's usually after we have sent a payment to the old carrier. Carriers will automatically renew the client for the new policy year, so they accept the payment we send them. Depending on your client to send us information just doesn't work. Clients get confused about the whole process; they seem to believe we know about everything.

We do our best to communicate with all the parties in the process. Each month we send reports and checks to the carriers. We send agents and carriers copies of letters of cancellation when a client has been canceled, and we continue to work on ways to improve the communication we have with the agent.

We encourage agents to call us with questions about their clients or if information is needed to contest an audit or just to say hi, how are things going.

Hillary Clinton said, "It takes a village to raise a child". Remember, it takes all of us working together to keep a client happy.
